E-Business

Digital technology enables value creation activities and competitive advantages across industries worldwide. Winners in this complex environment differentiate themselves from others by their ability to successfully transform data into new processes, products/services and entire business models.
E-Business research is concerned with the technological design, the organizational usage, and the business value of information technologies. The constant stream of novel IT in the form of the internet, mobile devices, cloud infrastructures, artificial intelligence, among others poses the starting point for several research questions along the causal chain from technology to strategy. Digital data complemented by analytical capabilities ultimately manifest themselves in processes and outputs of the firm, thus shaping its long-term competitive positioning. The emergence of data-driven business models holds the potential to disrupt established value networks, dissolve the boundaries between industries, and open multiple opportunities for new entrants in the market.

The objective of our research is to contribute to our understanding of the corresponding empirical phenomena on a technological and economic level by design-oriented, explorative, and confirmative research employing both, qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Furthermore, we seek to support managers in their challenge of making better decisions in this highly dynamic business environment with the help of normative research results, such as case studies, methodical guidelines, models and frameworks.
Our research approach is inherently interdisciplinary in nature with theories and methodologies rooted in various academic fields, for instance, computer science, psychology, and different strands within the management research discipline (e.g., information systems, technology and innovation management, strategic management, marketing, logistics and manufacturing).
